Smith Scores 4 Goals, Dunlap Sets Shutout Record, As Lady Hornets Blank NEB, 6-0

Sophomore Haylie Smith scored four goals to help the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team to a 6-0 win over Northeast Bradford Wednesday afternoon.

"We played with a lot of purpose tonight," head coach Michael Reese said. "We moved the ball well, created opportunities and did a good job of making them work for everything."

Smith opened the scoring not even two minutes into the game off an assist junior Kate Bryant. Bryant then scored just over five minutes later to make it a 2-0 game. Junior Luna Moyer increased the Lady Hornets' lead just under 10 minutes into the contest off an assist from Smith before Smith struck for the second time with 29 minutes left in the first half.

Smith completed her hat trick with 17:40 remaining in the game then added her final goal with just under 10 minutes remaining. Junior Rosa Sguera assisted on Smith's final goal.

Junior Rylee Coolidge assisted on Smith's second and third goals.

NEB edged Wellsboro, 11 shots to 10, but senior Jadyn Dunlap saved all of them for a clean sheet and her second shutout of the season. Dunlap has recorded 17 career shutouts, the most of any Lady Hornet keeper in program history. Both teams had three corner kicks apiece.

"Haylie and Rylee obviously had a great night, but this was a complete team effort and we had a lot of girls contribute," continued Reese. "I'm especially happy for Jadyn. Another shutout and now holding the school record for career shutouts for girls soccer is a pretty special accomplishment. She's put a lot of work into becoming the goalkeeper she is and she deserves the recognition. We're happy with the result, but we also know we have to keep getting better."

Wellsboro improves to 2-1 (2-0 NTL) and hosts rival North Penn-Mansfield Saturday morning.
