Sophomore Haylie Smith sunk a game-winning goal off an assist from junior Carly Blackwell to give the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team a 1-0 win over Jersey Shore Saturday.

Smith converted Blackwell's pass with 7:22 let to play in the first half for the game's only goal.

Senior Jadyn Dunlap made six saves in goal for the shutout.

Jersey Shore out-shot Wellsboro 6-4 on the day and also had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

"Jersey Shore gave us a tough, physical game and we knew we were going to have to earn everything," head coach Michael Reese said. "I was proud of how we matched their physicality, controlled the midfield and refused to give them anything easy. Our defense did an outstanding job of competing for every ball and making things difficult for them all game. Jadyn came up big again in goal, earning another shutout and tying the school record in the process. That is a tremendous accomplishment and a credit to the work she has put in, along with the players in front of her. We found a way to get the job done and, in the final five minutes, we played incredibly smart soccer. We made good decisions, stayed composed and did what we needed to do to close out the win. Games like this take more than skill. They take toughness, discipline and a willingness to compete with a strong mentality. Our girls showed all of that today."

The Lady Hornets improve to 10-2-1 (8-0-1 NTL). The team is back in action Tuesday against Troy.
