Two late goals by the Troy Trojans sunk the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team, 2-1, on Tuesday evening.
"I thought we played with a lot of heart and showed a lot of character," said head coach Michael Reese. "We went down a goal but kept fighting and found a way to get back into the game. We created some really good opportunities and did a nice job putting pressure on them. Unfortunately, we gave up a late goal, but I was proud of the way the girls kept battling and playing hard until the final whistle. The result wasn’t what we wanted, but I liked the fight we showed."
The game was scoreless up until just past the midway point of the second half when Haylie Davies-Grove capitalized on a pass from Kyah Renzo with 19:13 remaining.
Troy held a 1-0 advantage until 6:26 remaining when junior Luna Moyer put in a shot following a corner kick from junior Kate Bryant to knot things up. Renzo later put in the game-winning goal with 4:03 left off a corner kick from Davies-Grove.
Troy out-shot the Lady Hornets 16-9 in the game. Wellsboro had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
Senior Jadyn Dunlap stopped 14 of Troy's shots, placing her at 563 for her career.
The Lady Hornets (10-3-1, 8-1-1 NTL) host Williamson Thursday night for Senior Night.
