The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team defeated Towanda, their only loss to date on the season, 4-1 at home on Wednesday night.

"Proud of how we pressed and defended to limit a very dangerous Towanda team," said head coach John Shaffer.

Sophomore Liam Stevens got things started for the Hornets midway through the first half, then Wellsboro proceeded to open the flood gates before the intermission horn sounded. Four and a half minutes after Stevens' opening goal, junior RJ Doughtie finished a pass from junior Fen Moyer to make it 2-0, then brother James Doughtie scored off an assist from junior Gabe Cuneo, making it 3-0 with just over 11 minutes left.

Cuneo later scored with three minutes remaining in the opening half, off a Stevens assist, to put Wellsboro in front, 4-0, at the break.

Towanda's Brayden Spencer scored nine minutes into the second half to cut the lead down to 4-1, but the Hornets answered back with their final goal of the game with 27:12 to go, as senior Colin Fletcher scored off an assist from freshman Callen Novak.

Wellsboro had 17 shots on goal to the Black Knights' two, and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Camden Bryant made 4 saves in goal.

"I'm proud of the boys for how they played tonight," Shaffer continued. "Mason Brill went down early in the game win an injury and the whole team stepped up. Tonight is just another step in the journey, we have to continue to play to our standard every day."

The win improves the Hornets to 10-1-2 (9-1-1 NTL). The team is back in action at North Penn-Liberty on Monday.
