Tennis Double Overtime Goal Sends Wellsboro To D4 Quarterfinals

By: Ed Weaver  /  October 23, 2025

A goal by junior Coen Tennis with 1:39 left to play in the second overtime period lifted the Wellsboro Boys Soccer team past Loyalsock, 2-1, to advance them to the quarterfinal round of the District IV Class 2A playoffs Wednesday evening.

"A complete team effort," commented head coach Todd Fitch. "We had guys not get in the match tonight, but there's no doubt that they played a significant role in the preparation for this game. From the training ground to the game, every player contributed to tonight's win."

The Lancers got on the scoreboard first with 11:08 left in the first half on a Caleb Hartsock goal. Wellsboro trailed 1-0 until 9:58 remaining in regulation when senior David Seeling was fouled in the keeper box. He competed at penalty kick, tying the game at 1-1.

Neither team scored the remainder of regulation, or the first overtime period, sending the game into double overtime.

This time, unlike the last time the two teams played to a 0-0 double overtime draw, the Hornets were able to find the back of the net before time expired.

Tennis came up with the ball after sophomore Gabe Cuneo took a corner kick, with Tennis finding the back of the net for the second time this season.

The Hornets edged Loyalsock 8-7 in shot attempts and 6-5 in corner kicks.

Senior Camden Tom made 5 saves in goal to pick up the win.

Wellsboro (12-5-2) travels to Milton for a 2:00 p.m. start on Saturday against #4 seed Montoursville.
