Lady Hornets Rally From 1-0 Deficit To Edge Wyalusing, 2-1

After a goal midway through the 2nd half of Thursday afternoon's game with Wyalusing, the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team rallied with a pair of goals in under six minutes to defeat the Lady Rams, 2-1.

"Relentless is the word that defines our program tonight," said head coach Michael Reese. "Relentless effort, relentless pressure and relentless belief in our system. Our varsity battled back for a 2-1 win behind two goals from our senior captain, and our JV earned another clean sheet with a 1-0 victory. Both teams showed the same determination and grit."

Wyalusing's Vayda Rought scored unassisted with 24:57 remaining in the game to give the Lady Rams a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first half.

Wellsboro then rallied with two goals, in five minutes and 59 seconds, to edge out Wyalusing and hang on for the win.

Senior Emily Benjamin scored both goals, the first with 17:20 remaining off an assist from senior Lilah Parades to tie the game, then the second with 11:21 left off an assist from freshman Haylie Smith to put the Lady Hornets in front.

Wellsboro edged Wyalusing 9-8 in shots and the Lady Rams had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Jadyn Dunlap madde 7 saves in goal.

Wellsboro also earned a 1-0 win in the JV game on a goal by sophomore Molly Doan with 2:28 remaining in the first half. Senior Caelyn Reese made 3 saves in goal for the shut out.

The Lady Hornets improve to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the NTL. The team is back in action Saturday at Williamson.
