The Wellsboro Boys Soccer teams earned a pair of shutout victories over North Penn-Liberty on a drizzly night in Wellsboro.

The Varsity team won 2-0 while the JV team improved the 10-0 following a 10-0 shutout.

Prior to the contest, head coach Todd Fitch was recognized for becoming the 2nd Wellsboro Boys Soccer head coach to reach 100 wins. John Shaffer currently holds the record with career 110 wins. Fitch achieved the milestone in the Hornets' 5-0 win over Towanda on September 13.

"When I think about the journey, the time invested, the relationships, and the boys and the teams who have come through this program, I realize how much I've been blessed," he said.

Wellsboro broke the scoreless tie with 13:17 remaining in the first half as junior Jacob Smith scored off a pass from junior Zander Rachiele. Then with 8:21 left in the half, junior Colin Fletcher took a pass from sophomore Brayden Benjamin.

Wellsboro held the Mounties the rest of the way, behind 2 saves from senior Camden Tom for the Hornets' fifth shutout of the season.

The Hornets out shot the Mounties 9-2 and had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"We increased our shots on goal and corner kicks, while reducing theirs, since our last meeting," commented Fitch. "Our attackers finished two opportunities and our keeper and defensive line recorded another clean sheet. It was a good way to begin our stretch of league games."

In the JV game sophomore Xavier Lecker and freshman Liam Stevens recorded hat tricks on the evening while freshman Daniel Taboada scored a pair of goals. Junior Kayden Pearson and freshman Maddon Mascho also scored individual goals. Sophomores Connor Hartman and RJ Doughtie, Taboada, and Stevens (2) assisted on goals.

The Hornets improve to 9-3 (7-1 NTL). The team is back in action Saturday after at Athens.
