By: Ed Weaver  /  September 7, 2024

Wellsboro scored nine goals to shut out Galeton on Friday, September 6 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

"We had a brilliant game tonight by our defense who completely controlled their side of the field," said coach Derek Stevens. "Our team started to really settle into our type of soccer and played complete team ball."

The Hornets scored first off a cross from Callen Novak to Gage Baltzley before Liam Stevens finished the half with a hat trick. Stevens scored his three goals in a span of four minutes, two unassisted and the final one assisted by Baltzley, putting the Hornets up 4-0 at the break.

Stevens added a pair of goals to put Wellsboro up 6-0 to start the second half (assists by Maddon Mascho and Benjamin Jackson), then Haylie Smith (James Doughtie), Owen Miller, and Samuel Jackson added the remaining goals.

The Young Hornets are back in action on Monday at home against Wyalusing.
