Hornet Boys Top Towanda 6-0 For Third Straight Shutout

The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team won their third straight game via a 6-0 shutout over Towanda in the nightcap of a double header with the Black Knights on Thursday, September 28.

Junior Micaiah Fitch wasted little time getting the Hornets on the scoreboard, with his team-leading 12th goal of the season, not even two minutes into the contest. Senior Caden Smith assisted on the goal, making it 1-0. Smith then went on to score back-to-back goals, to push the lead to 3-0 in favor of Wellsboro. His first came 10 minutes after Fitch's opening goal on an assist from junior Jack Bryant and sophomore David Seeling. The second came just a minute later as junior Lucas Cuneo assisted.

Wellsboro's final goal of the first half came on a laser from junior Owen Stevens from roughly 20 yards out with 2:49 remaining, giving the Hornets a commanding 4-0 halftime lead.

"Getting a goal in the opening minutes seemed to help us settle into the game," head coach Todd Fitch said following his 72nd career win. "The boys got into a flow and I thought they linked their passes real well from back to front, which led to more goal scoring opportunities. Towanda is a much improved team and our back line worked real well together again to hold off their attack."

In the second half senior Jacob Abadi scored a pair of goals, both on headers. Just over a minute into the start of the second half Abadi converted a Fitch direct kick to make it 5-0 then with 10:04 remaining, Abadi converted a Cuneo corner kick to make it 6-0.

Wellsboro out shot the Black Knights 19-3 and had a dominant 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior Mitchell Butler recorded his third straight shutout by making 3 saves.

Wellsboro improves to 9-2 (8-1 NTL) on the year and is back in action on Monday at Williamson, with hopes of avenging their only league loss this season.
