The Wellsboro Boys Soccer team shutout the Troy Trojans 5-0 for their second consecutive shutout on Thursday, September 15.

"It was a great game from the boys," said head coach John Shaffer. "We had the whole squad healthy for the first time this year. They kept the ball moving and created 23 scoring opportunities. The team is improving every game."

The Hornets got on the board with 26:58 remaining in the first half senior Jacob Singer assisted Brett Rudy to make it 1-0. With 14:06 left senior Josiah Hill scored his first goal of the night on an assist from junior Noah Fitch to make it 2-0. The score remained 2-0 in favor of Wellsboro until 32:28 of the second half when Hill assisted Singer to make it 3-0. Not ever a minute later, junior Tanner Runyan scored to make it 4-0, then junior Gabe Leach assisted Hill for his second goal of the night with 25:09 to make it 5-0.

Hill now has 61 goals on his career, and is the 18th multi-goal game of his career. Senior Casey Hoover earned his second straight shutout, and 12th of his career, with 2 saves in goal. The Hornets took 23 shots on goal on the night compared to Troy's 2, and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Wellsboro won the JV game 4-0 to improve to 5-1. Senior Alex Freeman had a hat trick and sophomore Holden Kennedy had a goal.

The Varsity win evens the Hornets' record up at 3-3 (2-2 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 17 against Northern Potter at Mansfield University.
