Hill to play soccer at Penn State-Altoona

Senior Josiah Hill announced on Tuesday, May 23 that he will continue his soccer career in the fall at Division III Penn State-Altoona.

Hill, a two-time PSCA All-State selection, and the Hornets' all-time leading goal scorer, is looking forward to the opportunity to get back on the field while majoring in accounting.

"I'm really excited to be playing, I've loved soccer since I was five years old so to be able to get the chance to play in college is definitely a special opportunity."

Hill tore up the NTL the past two seasons. After scoring 11 goals as a sophomore, he shattered the boys' soccer program's school record for goals in a season. The old record stood at 23. Hill scored 38 as a junior. Then as a senior, he broke his old school record with 41 goals en route to 94 career goals.

One of the factors leading Hill to Penn State-Altoona was the coaching staff and their interest level in him.

"The coach said I could potentially play a lot next year and that ultimately helped me decide."

Wellsboro head coach John Shaffer is also very excited and proud of Hill continuing his career.

"I'm very proud of Josiah. He's worked very hard over his four years and he's done amazing things and deserves to play at the next level," said Shaffer. "He's been a major part of the program scoring almost a 100 goals in his career, but also the example he sets and just everything he brings to the program has been a really positive influence and we're really going to miss him."

Hill knows that he can compete on the collegiate level, thanks mainly to Coach Shaffer.

"It's helped a lot that Coach Shaffer played college soccer. He keeps pushing me forward and gets me ready for the next level in everything he does. He doesn't want me to be as good as I am now, he wants me to keep getting better and push forward."

WellsboroSoccer.com and WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Josiah on continuing his soccer career at the collegiate level.
